H320 CF-MOD with Kingston 32GB CF card, Working!

    Hi all,
I have just done my first CF MOD & it works 100%!
I bought a KIngston 32GB CF card from ebuyer.com for £49.99 & a 1.8" IDE to CF card converter from eBay for £4.99
The CF converter has the jumper on & I haven't removed it, it's on Master, not slave.
I have added a picture of the CF MOD to this post.
I received the CF card converter last week & received the Kingston 32GB CFcard on Friday just gone, then plugged the CF card into my built in card reader on my pc then copied Rockbox & all my music to the card & made sure the card was in FAT32 format, which it already was!
I then plugged the CF card into the converter & the converter into my H320 & it worked first time in Rockbox.
I then tried to see if it worked on the iRiver firmware & it does!
The iRiver firmware I used it on is: 1.29K
I am in the process of testing the battery life & & will add to this post by the end of this week the battery run times.
I will also give all the info about what settings Rockbox are in to run the test.
    I now own a H332! EXCELLENT!
So how many other people on here has done this mod?
    Regards Tom.

    Hi snapper007,
Sorry not to add that in the first place.
I have installed the bootloader already, so all I did is copy the folder .rockbox from the HDD to the CF card.
It's like how I always do when I get another 300 series working: first upgrade the firmware to: 1.29k then, do it again with the patched firmware but with the Rockbox bootloader, then I just copy the folder saved on my pc called .rockbox then I copy it to the device HDD then I have Rockbox on the device.
So all I did was copy the Rockbox firmware to the CF card.
If anyone wants the 1.29k firmware or the modified 1.29k firmware with the Rockbox bootloader then please PM me & I will send it by attachment by email.
    Regards Tom.

    Hi Eric,
Thanks for that! I have been wanting to do this mod for ages but the CF cards were to much then but now they are not!
Just to let anyone on know that I will be selling this device with this mod on eBay next year! as I want to give this mod a full test, on Rockbox of course :¬)
I will post the battery times tomorrow if I get time!
    Regards Tom.

That is awesome! Now I have to make the decision--120GB hard drive, or 32GB flash drive? I'm not good at decisions....
If these rings that I run were lines, just imagine how much farther I would be. --Splashdown

    Hi Catball,
It depends how much GB you need, if you want to use it while jogging then it's great! no HDD to damaged plus longer battery time!
I will do it some day with my own H380 when the 100GB CF cards come out & are cheap!
    Regards Tom.

    Hi all,
Right now the information about Rockbox & running times, on the CF-MOD I done!
    Rockbox ver: r17564-080518
Rockbox settings while I did the battery run time test:
    Brightness on full / 15
Theme running on test: DGT 1.4
    EQ settings: 50Hz band gain: 4.0db, 200Hz band gain: -10.0db, 800Hz band gain: -13.5db, 4000Hz band gain: -11.0db, 12000Hz band gain: -6.0db
    Volume level: -15db
    Using Sony MDR-E818LP earphones.
Back light on all the time.
    Battery time: 15 hours & 5 minutes
Playing only MP3 format in one folder, but not on repeat.
Hope this is all the information that anyone would need to know on this mod for a battery test.
    Regards Tom.

"first upgrade the firmware to: 1.29k then, do it again with the patched firmware but with the Rockbox bootloader" Completely lost! Would you please give me details instructions on how to install a 32GB TopRam CF card on my H320. What do I exactly copy from my HDD to the CF? I'm running the latest version of Rockbox 3.6. I upgraded the firmware to 1.29K and get the H320.exe from the Rockbox.org. I placed everything in the CF card but I'm still getting the ATA error: -11 no matter what I do. I'm ready to set everything on fire! It's so frustrating! Please help me. The Cf is formated to FAT32, the adapter is OK so I think it has something to do with the bootloader. Please help!!!

ATA error: -11 means master_slave_detect() failed. Try looking at the IDE - CF adapter and check if you have put the jumper on master. Otherwise check the connection.
