    Headphone out vs. Line out

    Hi Everyone

I have had my H320 for a few years now, however I am going to start connecting it to the line in on my car stereo. I would like to know what the different is between the two plugs. Would I be better using the line out to my car stereo?

This is a pretty serious question, that has a lot to go with it, but I will simplify. The line-out will not go through the headphone amp, producing a less dynamic, but much more crisp sound. I doubt you'll really tell much of a difference, but as always, just try both and see what you like.

Apparently, the H3xx series do not have a true line out.

See, with a true line out, the volume doesn't change when you change the volume. However, on a H3xx, the volume does change.

There are plenty of rumours floating around this forum that at maximum volume (in the original firmware), the line out becomes a true line out. However true this is, I don't know.

    Personally, I can't hear a difference between the 2.

    Hi all!
Well I test these devices out daily & found that there is less bass on the line out so I would think that the line out doesn't go through the headphone amp, but still arrow224 you still have a good point as my portable minidisc recorder also has a line out but the volume level is fixed, so this does leave me wondering what the line out does!
    Regards Tom.

as arrow mentioned, the lineout is not a true line out. To set it at a true lineout volume it would need to be set around 15 or so.

The Line-out signal of UDA1380TT is filtered and re-shaped after the DSP module, Interpolation Filter and Noise Shaper. So we can say it is line-out but it is also made-up line out. If you need it comes purely just set the VOL up to 0dB in RockBox.
